The Billionaire's Unexpected Baby by Kira Archer
I HATE a pregnancy trope so I was irritated before I started this book. The only reason I didn't skip is was because I really liked Brooks in book 1 and wanted to see him as the lead. But, this wasn't a traditional take on the pregnancy trope which helped immensely. Leah has a one night stand and the condom breaks. She gets a job as a teacher at a catholic school that has a morality clause in the contract. Then she finds out she's pregnant. She is moving in to her apartment on campus and Brooks is there helping her. They are talking about her pregnancy and mother superior hears. She accuses Leah of lying during her interview. She tells her an abbreviated version and as the mother is about to fire her Brooks steps in and says they are engaged but that he travels a lot for work and that's why they decided she needed to live on campus. After some severe side eye the mother decides not to fire her, but suggests she move in with her husband. They get married less than a week later and she moves in. They engage in marital acts and she starts bleeding and thinking she lost the baby. They go to the hospital and find out that happens sometimes but she's fine. All the while she has been trying to get in contact with the actual father of the baby but she only has Facebook messenger and he's not reading them. She tells Brooks the name and it turns out they are mortal enemies; baby daddy stole and app from Brooks during college and has also been trying to steal other things from him, like women. Brooks gets in contact with BD's secretary and now Marcus (BD) wants to be involved. Except, he doesn't. He's doing some of the right things, but not all of them. And he and Brooks are constantly fighting. Both are in the hospital with her as she has the baby and Brooks lets Marcus cut the cord. Then Brooks leaves, comes back, takes her home, and they fight. Leah moves back to the school and everyone loves having the baby around; they don't even care about the morality clause and the end of her marriage. Brooks talks to his besties and they get his head together. Brooks buys Leah a house and he and Marcus decide to go to couples therapy. Marcus makes Brooks a guardian in case anything happens to him and Leah and so he has parental rights. Marcus is involved but from afar and it works out better for everyone. I liked Brooks as the lead character and enjoyed his growth. However, I still despise the pregnancy trope.
