Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This picks up basically right were book 1 (and 1.5) ended. Katy and Daemon are still will they-won't they. Then we get Blake. He's a new guy in town and just like Katy. He thinks she needs to learn how to control her powers to protect herself. Daemon doesn't like him and I agree; there's something off about him. Turns out, his uncle works for the DoD. Also, Katy's mom is now dating Bethany's uncle, and there's something off about him too. The book ends with Katy being kidnapped by Will, her mom's boyfriend, and the only way she will be free is if Daemon agrees to heal him so he can also have powers. Daemon agrees on the condition that Dawson is also freed. He heals him, but doesn't put a lot of effort into it and they are all hoping it didn't take. The book is fine. High stakes enough that you are invested but, since I'm reading it as an adult, I do question the decision making ability of the main characters.
