Gothic Story for Spooky Season

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Apparently I read this back in 2008, but I have no recollection of it. I don't remember Jekyll. I don't remember Hyde. I don't remember that Jekyll wanted to separate himself into two distinct parts, but only ended up keeping himself as he was and separating the bad parts himself - he wanted a true good vs. evil. I don't remember Hyde taking over. I don't remember his frantic search for the original drug that caused the transformation. And I don't remember Hyde being the final form. I don't like that nobody bothered to check to make sure he was actually, super dead. As far as gothic tales go, this was not a great spooky season story and I should probably return to my yearly Dracula re-reads if I want the spooky vibes.
