You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith
This was a cute, fast paced, duel POV story. It takes place over the course of about one week. It is friends to antagonists to lovers. Adam and Whitney were best friends when they were kids, then his dad died and he fell apart (rightfully so) and pushed everyone away. Whitney gave up because she couldn't get through to him, and she made new friends, popular friends. Her dad got his big break with e-sports cafes while Adam and his mom are desperately trying to keep his dads pinball arcade alive. Her dad is horrible and only values her for what she can do for the business. Her brother and some of his friends end up destroying one of the pinball machines. Adam tweets about it. It goes viral. She responds and looks like the villain because she is in charge of the social media for all of the e-sports cafes. Also, her boyfriend breaks up with her. She and Adam keep running into each other around town. They finally talk and clear the air. There is a big snowstorm and they get snowed in at the pinball arcade, just the two of them. Then, without telling her, her dad sends out a tweet that there's going to be an announcement at the Old Town Winter Fest, and that announcement is that he's buying the arcade. Adam thinks she knew. She didn't. Her supposed friends have been ignoring her, and one even started dating her ex. She realizes they weren't really her friends and were just using her when her dad tells her he hired two of them as interns and that she is in charge of them. She fires them. Confronts her dad and he finally listens. Then she quits. She starts at a new school and joins a horticulture club. She and Adam made up. But there isn't really any clarity on what happens between them. The book either needed to be longer, or it needs a follow up. It was cute, but it felt unfinished.
