Black Water Sister by Zen Cho
I love mythology so this was right up my alley! There was a lot going on in this book and it was a little hard at first; you had to give it time to build. BUT! once the characters and the lore were established it was great. We were finding out things with Jess. There were times where I thought I knew where the story was going and I ended up being completely wrong. I don't normally like a story where the focus is on the main character finding themself, but that was secondary to the mythology so it wasn't horrible. I liked how Jess helped the Black Water Sister find peace and move on. I did not like the ending; we don't know how Jess's family reacted to her coming out. There was this huge build up to it, and then we get nothing. I love learning about other cultures and their belief systems, so this was really interesting.
